Wastewater

Wastewater can have many different meanings and terms.  In this context on this site we are specifically referring to the sewage discharge from sewage systems such as septic tanks, cesspits, cesspools, sewage treatment plants and sewers.

Wastewater is usually made up from many substances.  The following list is an example of some of the contaminants found in wastewater :-

Human waste such as urine, excrement, and other body fluids.

Toilet paper.

Sanitary Towels.

Nappies.

Rainwater.

Bath, sink, shower and toilet water.

Soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other hygiene products.

Water e.t.c

In most cases domestic sewage treatment plants will break down the wastewater turning it into an environmentally safe product.  However there are many sewage systems in the UK that do not meet the standards laid out by the Environmental Agency for acceptable sewage discharge.

These regulations are called the EPP2 regulations.
