Septic Tank Maintenance

Septic Tank and Sewage Treatment Plant Maintenance

There are two main ways to service your septic tank and sewage treatment plant.

The first and best method is to get the sewage tank emptied or a de-sludged by a tanker emptying company. This method will ensure that the sludge is removed from the main holding tank. The excess build up of sludge is the main cause for blocked soakaways. The interval in which you get your sewage tank emptied should be at least once a year.

The second way to service your septic tank and sewage treatment plant is to install bacteria into the system. Bacteria are living organisms that exist in your sewage system and break all the waste down naturally. Unfortunately with modern living household products such as bleach, washing powders, soap e.t.c these kill off the bacteria. So once a year new bacteria should be put back into the tank to top the bacteria levels back up.

The biggest indication that the bacteria in your sewage system are dead, or dying will be that your sewage system will smell.

A healthy septic tank will not smell. More more information, free advice or if you would like to purchase some bacteria then please ring us on 0800 907 0051
